One of the best ways to get into the Christmas spirit is listening to Christmas music! Whether you’re busy decorating the tree, wrapping presents or baking some Christmas treats, you can have your favourite Christmas songs playing the background. I’ve created three different Christmas playlists on Spotify depending on whichever mood you’re in - a Christmas Favourites Playlist, a Soulful R&B Christmas Playlist and a Caribbean Christmas Playlist.

CARIBBEAN CHRISTMAS PLAYLIST 🌴
Transport yourself to the islands this Christmas with this Caribbean Christmas playlist available on Spotify! Filled with a little bit of Soca, a modern form of Calypso that originated in Trinidad and Tobago, some Christmas songs played on the steel pan, a bit of Reggae which originated in Jamaica and even one or two Country Christmas songs, which is a popular genre on many Caribbean islands.
To make sure I had a good selection, I enlisted the help of some ex-Choice FM DJs. Caribbean music specialist Martin Jay recommended Soca Santa by Machel Montano & Black Cake Lover by Sugar Aloes - you can listen to Martin Jay on Bakahnal Radio. Daddy Ernie, who was recently included on the honour nomination list in 100 Great Black Britons by Angelina Osborne and Patrick Vernon recommended Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Shaggy, Merry Christmas Baby by Maxi Priest & Silent Night by Mafia & Fluxy. Host of the UK’s Official Reggae Chart Show Natty B recommended Christmas in the Air by Sanchez & Starting Today by Beres Hammond.
CHRISTMAS FAVOURITES PLAYLIST
A few weeks ago, I asked my followers over on Instagram to share their favourite Christmas songs so this playlist was created by you! Filled with Christmas favourites and classics, this playlist helps to get you fully in the Christmas mood. The most popular choices from Instagram were Last Christmas by Wham, but most popular by far was All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, which though was only released in 1994 has become a firm Christmas favourite.
A SOULFUL R&B CHRISTMAS PLAYLIST
A selection of Soul and R&B Christmas songs to get you into the Christmas mood. A lot of the Instagram suggestions for the Christmas Favourites Playlist were Soul and R&B songs, so I thought why not have a whole soulful playlist?! Some favourite suggestions included Destiny’s Child, John Legend, Mariah Carey and Donny Hathaway.
