Can you believe we’re nearly at the end of summer? I can’t quite believe how quickly it’s flown by, but I’m determined to squeeze out every last drop before autumn properly arrives. Carnival may have packed away for another year, but there’s still plenty happening across the city to get your dose of Caribbean culture.
This month’s Caribbean events in London include food, film, music, exhibitions, and plenty of new discoveries. I’ll also be hosting my next raffia embroidery workshop on 19 September, followed by another on 17 October if you can’t make this month’s date.
And, as always, I’ve found a few Caribbean discoveries worth keeping on your radar as we ease into autumn.
Scroll down to see what I’ve found for September.

Tapestry of Black Britons
8 - 30 September | Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Tottenham
Opening event: Tuesday 8 September, 6pm - 9pm
Curated by artist and cultural producer Paula Ogun Hector, Tapestry of Black Britons brings together large-scale woven artworks tracing almost 2,000 years of African and Caribbean presence in Britain, from Roman Britain to the present day.
The exhibition feels particularly timely this year, as Notting Hill Carnival celebrates its 60th anniversary. One of the works, Carnivals in Britain, was designed by Paula Ogun Hector, with artwork by Henry Obasi, while African Romans in Britain was designed by Alvin Kofi.
Bernie Grant Arts Centre is the only London venue where you can see the complete collection together before the works travel to different locations across England as part of an autumn tour.
If you want to catch the full exhibition in one place, this is the one to visit. The opening event on 8 September is free.

Chapter Two: A Modern Jamaican Tasting Experience
Sunday 27 September | 6.30pm - 10.30pm
40 Merchant Street, Brent Cross, London NW2 8BB
Chef Forbeees is hosting Chapter Two, an intimate five-course Jamaican tasting experience in London.
There are just 15 places around one table, with the menu taking familiar Jamaican ingredients and flavours and presenting them through a contemporary tasting-menu format.
The evening follows Chef Forbeees’ first tasting event, combining the flavours they grew up with and ideas developed through their work in the kitchen.
Rather than a traditional restaurant sitting, Chapter Two is designed as a shared supper-club experience, with four hours to enjoy five courses, conversation, and the company of everyone gathered around the table.

Join my September Raffia Embroidery workshop
If your summer has been a busy one, raffia embroidery is a lovely way to slow things down as we head into autumn. Spend a couple of relaxed hours away from the usual rush, learning something new and creating a colourful piece of art for your home.
During my beginner-friendly workshop, I’ll teach you the raffia embroidery technique I developed while creating my graduate collection, inspired by my Caribbean heritage and the Windrush Generation. I’ll guide you through each step, from your first stitch onwards, and share a little about the history and heritage that has influenced my work.
You’ll work with natural and paper raffia in your choice of vibrant colours and choose between a hibiscus flower or tropical monstera leaf design. The workshops are kept small, with a maximum of six people, so there’s plenty of time for questions and individual help.
No previous embroidery experience is needed, and you don’t need to bring anything with you - all materials and equipment are provided.
You’ll leave with your own raffia embroidery hoop art, some new stitching skills, and perhaps a new creative hobby to carry into the autumn and winter months.
The next workshop is on 19 September and 17 October.

Caribbean Taste of the Month
Two Gabriel’s Wharf Favourites
@southbank.limin | @gabu_chocolate
This month, I couldn’t choose just one Caribbean taste of the month.
September marks the end of an era at Gabriel’s Wharf on the South Bank, as the site prepares for redevelopment. Before things change, there are two Caribbean businesses I think are well worth squeezing in a visit to: LIMIN SOUTHBANK and GABU Chocolate.
LIMIN SOUTHBANK
Founded by Trinidadian chef Sham Mahabir, LIMIN has brought a little piece of Trinidad to Gabriel’s Wharf, complete with a sandy terrace, rum cocktails, and plenty of Trini food. Its name comes from the Trinidadian expression “limin” - spending time with friends and family over food, drink, music, and good company.
I’ve really enjoyed eating here and will particularly miss their doubles, so I’m hoping to fit in one more visit before LIMIN says goodbye to its South Bank home in September.
GABU Chocolate
Just a few doors away is GABU Chocolate, a hidden gem that you might be gutted not to have discovered sooner.
Created by chocolatier Lisette Davis, GABU specialises in handmade chocolates made with ethically sourced chocolate, alongside coffee, ice cream, and other treats. The little Gabriel’s Wharf shop and café is a hidden gem that will be truly be missed from its current location in Gabriel's Wharf.
So, if you’re heading down to the South Bank this September, make time for a double stop: doubles at LIMIN followed by chocolate at GABU... Sounds like a pretty good afternoon to me.
Missed these?
Curated Caribbean discoveries from the last edition that are still worth checking out!
Last month, I gave you a heads-up that Black Eats Fest is returning. If you missed the August edition, you’ve got a second chance on 3 - 4 October, with a weekend of food, culture, music, and plenty of good vibes.
Expect new traders alongside returning favourites and live entertainment, all while continuing to spotlight and celebrate Black-owned food businesses.
I also shared Ramon’s latest cookbook, Ackee and Plantain, a collection of more than 90 flavour-packed Caribbean vegan recipes. Some of the recipes include scannable QR codes taking you to videos of Ramon making the dishes, which is a handy addition if you prefer to cook along rather than follow a recipe from the page.
So, if either of these passed you by last time, consider this your reminder to take another look.
More Discoveries
This month, I’ve come across even more incredible finds that simply had to be part of Curated Caribbean! Here are some additional gems to explore:
Marogmi
@Marogmi_studio
Marogmi’s homeware takes inspiration from the Caribbean, bringing island references, colour, and character into contemporary interiors without feeling like the usual souvenir-shop version of Caribbean design.
There are some really beautiful pieces in the collection, from colourful prints to home accessories, that are an easy way to brighten up your space and bring a little Caribbean sunshine indoors as we head into the autumn months.

Nneka Jones
This one first caught my attention because of its title, Backstitch, and the beautiful embroidered cover artwork by Nneka Jones - her work is incredible.
The artwork was created for the debut novel by Idrissa Simmonds-Nastili, a Haitian-American and Jamaican-Canadian writer, poet, and essayist. The book itself is one for your future reading list when it’s published in February 2027.
Backstitch moves between 1920s Haiti and 1990s New York, following generations of women in the Marcelin family and exploring motherhood, sisterhood, resistance, family secrets, generational trauma, and liberation.
But it was Nneka’s intricate embroidery that led me to discover the book in the first place. I love finding examples of embroidery being used in unexpected ways, particularly when the artwork becomes part of how a story is introduced before you’ve even opened the book.
