THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Device Information
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect some information about your device and browsing behaviour, including your browser type, IP address, time zone, and the pages or products you view. We collect this through cookies, log files, and similar technologies (web beacons, tags, pixels). You can find out more about cookies, and how to disable them, at allaboutcookies.org.
Order Information
When you make a purchase, we collect your name, billing and shipping address, payment details, email address, and phone number, in order to fulfil your order.
Marketing Preference Information
If you sign up to our mailing list, we collect your name and email address, and - where you choose to share it - your general interests (for example, kits, workshops, or Caribbean culture content) and general location (for example, whether you're based in London or the South East). We use this to send you more relevant emails, such as letting you know about workshop dates near you.
HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use your information to:
- Fulfil and process your orders, including payment, shipping, and confirmations
- Communicate with you about your order or enquiry
- Send you marketing emails about our products, workshops, and events, where you have consented to receive them
- Personalise the content of those emails based on the preferences you've shared with us
- Screen for potential fraud
- Understand how visitors use our Site, so we can improve it
OUR LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract: to process your order, arrange shipping, and provide invoices or confirmations.
- Consent: to send you marketing emails and personalise their content. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see "Your Marketing Choices" below).
- Legitimate interests: to prevent fraud and to understand how our Site is used, in ways that don't override your own privacy rights.
PIXELS AND ANALYTICS
We use pixels and similar tracking technologies from the following platforms to understand how visitors use our Site and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing:
- Google Analytics: to understand how visitors use the Site. See google.com/policies/privacy. You can opt out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram): to measure and improve our advertising, including through Meta's Advanced Matching feature, which shares some browsing behaviour to help match visitors to their Meta accounts.
- Pinterest Tag: to measure and improve our advertising on Pinterest.
- TikTok Pixel: to measure and improve our advertising on TikTok.
These pixels may share information such as your browsing behaviour and device information with the relevant platform. You can manage your ad preferences directly through each platform's own settings, or through your browser's cookie controls.
WHO WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION WITH
We work with a small number of trusted third parties to run our business, including:
- Shopify: to power our online store. See Shopify's privacy policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
- Klaviyo: to send our marketing emails and manage subscriber preferences. See Klaviyo's privacy policy at klaviyo.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Google (Analytics and Ads): to understand Site usage and to run advertising. See Google's privacy policy at google.com/policies/privacy.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram): to run advertising and measure its effectiveness. See Meta's privacy policy at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
- Pinterest: to run advertising and measure its effectiveness. See Pinterest's privacy policy at policy.pinterest.com/privacy-policy.
- TikTok: to run advertising and measure its effectiveness. See TikTok's privacy policy at tiktok.com/legal/privacy-policy.
We may also share your information where required by law, in response to a lawful request, or to protect our legal rights.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
YOUR MARKETING CHOICES
You can withdraw your consent to marketing emails, or update your preferences (such as your interests or location), at any time by:
- Clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or
- Emailing us at hello@tiharasmith.com
INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Some of the third parties we work with (including Shopify and Klaviyo) may store or process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on these providers' compliance with recognised data protection safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
DATA RETENTION
We keep Order Information for as long as necessary for our business, accounting, and legal record-keeping purposes, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
We keep marketing preference information (name, email, interests, location) for as long as you remain subscribed to our mailing list, or until you ask us to delete it.
DO NOT TRACK
We do not currently alter our data collection practices in response to a browser's "Do Not Track" signal.
YOUR RIGHTS (UK RESIDENTS)
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct or update it
- Ask us to delete it
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time (this won't affect processing that already took place before withdrawal)
- To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@tiharasmith.com.
