In Raffia Embroidery, I share 10 vibrant, beginner-friendly projects inspired by my Caribbean heritage, from a bold hoop embroidery and striking wall hanging to a simple tote bag, zipped pouch, and cushion. Each piece combines natural raffia fabric and raffia ribbon to create beautifully tactile designs that bring some sunshine into your home.
You’ll learn my step-by-step process for working with raffia - from choosing your tools and materials to mastering simple stitches and techniques. Full-size templates are included, so you can get started straight away.
Project embroidery designs range from Caribbean-inspired florals and foliage to playful tropical motifs, and I’ll also show you how to add a personal touch to your clothing and accessories like decorating a denim jacket or straw hat with raffia embroidery for a distinctive twist.
Alongside practical projects, I share a glimpse into what I’ve learned so far about the history of Caribbean craft and my own family’s Windrush story.
