Museum of London: Dub London Event

Museum of London: Dub London Event

Win tickets to the Museum of London's Dub London event...

On the 3rd September 2021, the Museum of London will be hosting an evening inspired by their exhibition Dub London: Bassline of a City.

The event will celebrate Black fashion, music and how fashion and music both connect to our personal heritage. The event will be hosted by Museum of London Curator Rianna Norbert-David.

Rianna, along with fellow Museum of London curator Dr Lucie Whitmore both wrote this article supporting the museum's acquisition of an ensemble from my graduate Windrush collection. You can read more about the acquisition here

The event will also be led by lecturer and creative Omolara Obanishola, looking at Omolara’s recent research that explores the relationship between fashion, dress and Lovers rock (a British born reggae genre) and how it relates to Dub culture.

Dr Lucie Whitmore will be talking about some new fashion acquisitions the museum have added to their collections, including the work acquired from my graduate collection. Lucie will also discuss the role of acquiring new items for the Museum of London.

I'm also excited to share that I will be joining an amazing panel of contributors who will be sharing their work plus inviting the audience to participate and share their own memories and stories. Along with Omolara Obanishola, the panel will include playwright, artist, curator and educator Michael McMillan and Sistah Stella Headley from Rastafari Movement UK, co-founder of Sistah Outlets! Community Cultural Stores and Dub London contributor.

There will also be an opportunity to browse and purchase some items from the guest designers, and I will have a stall with a selection of products including greeting cards, stationery and pins! There will be a DJ set from DJ Papa Face of Dub Vendor Reggae Specialist, and a chance to enjoy delicious cocktails by Caribbean pop-up bar Rumblin.

This event is set to be a really exciting evening out, so if you're interested in attending, you can purchase tickets here.
