Tihara Smith will be at the Jamii Pop Up Shop at BOXPARK Shoreditch…

On Wednesday 5th August to Sunday 9th August 2020, Jamii discount card and marketplace for Black British businesses will be taking over a spot at BOXPARK Shoreditch for their first pop-up in conjunction with Appear Here to showcase 20 Black British brands and I am pleased to share that I will be one of those brands!

WHAT IS JAMII?

Launched in August 2016 by Khalia Ismain, Jamii discount card is a discovery platform, making it easier for shoppers to find some of the best independent black-owned businesses in the UK.

Their mission is to make shopping at black-owned brands as seamless and instinctive as any other retailer and to share with the world the amazing talent that exists within the black community. They signpost shoppers to a wide range of products, including fashion, hair & skin products, food and artwork.

Their list of black-owned businesses has been growing every week so take a look and discover a new favourite designer and shop.

A bit more about the founder Khalia Ismain

It's relatively early days in business years for Jamii, which came to existence in 2016, but in that time Khalia Ismain has been and continues to be completely committed to raising the awareness of black businesses owners, providing them with a platform, which not only uniquely offers discounts but also connects them with consumers, which in turns increases the black economy.

Since the impact of the Black Lives Matter movement, Jamii has gone from strength to strength not just adding more businesses to their directory but grabbing the attention of the world, gaining Jamii a massive increase in sign-ups and contributing further to providing black businesses with a greater opportunity to be discovered.

Khalia was recently named as one of fifteen start-up entrepreneurs to watch in 2020 by the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. You can also learn more about her journey in founding Jamii in her interview with Starling Bank.
