PROJECTS & COLLABORATIONS
Graduate Collection Photoshoot
In May 2019, I collaborated with photographer Kayleigh Pace and Speos Photography School to photograph the outfits from my graduate collection. Working with models Ruby, Marcelle, Jada and makeup artists Rosana, we brought the ‘Windrush Collection’ to life.
Inspired by the initial research for my final collection, the bright and vibrant garments were photographed against a South London backdrop, reminiscent of the music, culture and ‘sunshine’ that the Windrush generation brought to the UK. Read more about the photoshoot here.
Along with my Granddad, I was interviewed by Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff and featured in the book ‘Mother Country: Real Stories of the Windrush Children’ published in 2018. My Granddad’s story is told in the chapter ‘Charming For England’:
“Lazare Sylvestre is a former mechanic and amateur/professional boxer from St Lucia. His granddaughter, Tihara Smith, presented her collection inspired by her grandfather and the Windrush generation at the Graduate Fashion Week in 2018.” See the book.
Black History Month with GFW
Featured on the Graduate Fashion Week website during Black History Month, I was interviewed by Annabel Waterhouse-Biggins. Discussing the importance of Black History Month, the Windrush generation and the inspiration behind my graduate collection.
“You Called We Came' […] This slogan was intended to serve as a powerful statement to say that the Windrush Generation is a huge part of British culture and highlight the massive contribution that they have made to British society.” Read more here.
